Located on 72 Avenue between King George Boulevard and Hail Road, the Newton Cultural Centre (NCC) is the headquarters of the Arts Council of Surrey (ACS) that oversees many of the city’s socio-cultural undertakings.

The centre was developed in 2010 from the restoration of the Newton neighbourhood’s old Firehall #10. Many of Surrey’s events and happenings on the visual, performing and literary arts are either hatched or directly held at the Newton Cultural Center.

The two-story centre provides the spaces for cultural events and gatherings. These include meeting rooms, a theatre, and an exhibition gallery.

The NCC is the crown jewel of the Central Newton Cultural District which spreads over 40 acres. Within this area, you’ll find one of Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s campuses, the largest of the five locations of this a public degree-granting undergraduate British Columbia polytechnic university. KPU Surrey is often called the school’s main campus, as it is home to the university’s office of the president and the primary site of the university’s Melville School of Business.

Street blocks satellite to the NCC offer a slew of other points of interest in Surrey. Walking distance east of the centre just across King George Boulevard, you can visit the Newton Recreation Centre. This fully accessible centre provides the only Olympic-sized mat room among all of Surrey’s recreation facilities. The other amenities in this community hub include two fitness centres, a Wave pool, and other aquatic fun offerings. The centre’s wave pool, the only one in Surrey, features three water slides and structures for interactive play.

Various group sports activities can be accommodated in the centre’s mat room with a floor space of 4,700 square feet. Modern training equipment are set up in the centre’s ground-level fitness room with a floor area of 8,000 square feet that can accommodate a variety of physical exercises. Users of these facilities can avail of programs, such as cardio, stretching, and individual training specific to various ages and abilities.

Visitors will immediately feel welcome the recreation centre’s lobby offering 412 square feet of space for social engagement. Moreover, Fern Façade, a large public art mural, adorns the windows of the centre, which also provides an outdoor playground safe for kids’ use.
