The Minnekhada Lodge is a circa 1930s historic attraction on Quarry Road about 10 kilometres or 18 minutes’ drive from the Coquitlam city proper via David Avenue. This lodge is open to the public on the first Sunday in most months of the year from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.The Greater Vancouver Regional District now owns this property, which Metro Vancouver manages currently.

Besides public visits, the lodge is a popular venue for special events, such as family gatherings, weddings, and company functions, like conferences. The lodge is good for events of up to 50 attendees and offers various facilities, including an outdoor area for ceremonies and a great room with a balcony that offers mesmerising views of the Pitt River.

Then Lieutenant Governor Eric Hamber is behind the construction of the lodge, which was built in 1934 as a country retreat for hunting. It was masterfully crafted in the likeness of a traditional Scottish hunting lodge. The renowned architect Bernard Palmer, who was among the Lion’s Gate bridge designers, helped draw the lodge’s blueprint.

The lodge’s features and immediate surroundings create an excellent setting not only for special events but also pictorials. The lodge offers a wonderful backdrop with its highly detailed relief and stucco work. It also boasts of an expansive dining hall with elaborate timberwork and a massive stone fireplace. In addition, traditional chandeliers adorn the lodge’s ceiling, echoing the lustrous ambiance of the lodge’s pool area and nearby blueberry fields.

During its heyday, the lodge was a favourite destination of BC’s celebrities, government officials, and even royalties. In 1939, talk was that Queen Elizabeth and George VI paid a visit to the lodge.

Currently, the lodge hosts the board meeting of the Minnekhada Park Association, typically every second Wednesday of the month. The association also hosts some recreational events in the Minnekhada Lodge.​
