A mixed-use development, Central City is one of the major economic drivers and lifestyle hubs in Surrey. It is located in the neighbourhood of Whalley, occupying the block west of King George Boulevard and east of University Avenue, with 102 Avenue defining its border on the north and Old Yale Road on the south.

Besides these road corridors, Central City is easily accessible through public transport via the local transit bus loop and two nearby SkyTrain stations—Surrey Central and King George.

Central City was originally a standalone shopping centre called Surrey Place Mall when it opened in the 1970s. It now features two shopping malls with some 130 tenants including Walmart, Winners, Best Buy, and Dollarama.

In addition to fast food restaurants like Burger King and Tim Hortons, Central City offers a variety of dining choices including the Vietnamese fare in Little Saigon and the Hawaiian servings of Steve’s Poke Bar.

Art appreciation for Central City’s shoppers and diners can be enjoyed in a large mural that adorn the wall near Winners and the children’s play area. Rendered by a local artist, Sandeep Johal, this artwork celebrates Surrey’s South Asian community and features colourful flowers, endearing animals, and geometric patterns.

You can also drop by Central City’s community booth, a free space for charities and nonprofit groups holding promotions and socio-cultural activities.

The 24-storey, 564 000 square-foot Central City Office Tower is another landmark in Surrey and houses one of the developments two shopping malls. This skyscraper is distinctive for its north facade featuring an atrium with a timber roof providing warmth and expression to the concrete, glass and steel building.

Designed by the well-known architect Bing Thom, the building has won several national and international awards.
The building’s tenants include the regional office of 7 Eleven Canada and the administrative offices of Stenberg University.

In addition, the tower is home to the Surrey campus of Simon Fraser University, providing 350,000 square feet for a supportive, intimate, and friendly learning environment to some 8,600 students.

SFU Surrey offers a broad first-year programs, enabling students to start most SFU degrees at the Surrey campus.
